Tip #1: NEVER touch the hot tip of the soldering iron with your bare hands when it is on. Always pick up the iron by the handle.
Tip #2: Avoid touching the hot end of the soldering iron to your skin or clothing. The iron can very quickly burn due to its temperature.
Tip #3: When not in use, leave the soldering iron in its holder. It can burn or set fire to your workstation when it's on.
Tip #4: Make sure that your workspace is well vented while soldering. The fumes from the solder can be toxic if allowed to accumulate and are inhaled. You can also wear a face mask and goggles to protect yourself from the fumes.
Tip #5: Make sure your circuit and components are well secured. If they fall during soldering, there is the risk that hot solder can splash onto the table.
Tip #6: If you have it, keep your regular sponge wet. The sponge can burn if it touches the soldering iron while dry.
Tip #7: It’s not recommended to wear gloves while soldering, due to the risk of the iron burning the gloves, and making the equipment more difficult to maneuver.
